The Department of Sociology, Bethany Christian College, in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), organised a Departmental Seminar 2026 on 28th September 2026 at 10:30 AM in the BCC Smart Room. The seminar was organised with the objective of enhancing students’ academic understanding of contemporary social problems in India and encouraging active participation in academic discussions.

The programme was chaired and conducted through the active participation of faculty members and students. Lethkhohao Lhungdim, 3rd Semester, served as the Compere, and Lhingneichong Lhungdim, 5th Semester, delivered the Welcome Address.

The seminar featured two academic presentations on important social problems in India. The first presentation, “Social Problems in India: Poverty,” was delivered by Asst. Prof. Kimneiting Haokip, HoD, Department of Sociology. The presentation focused on the meaning, forms, causes, effects and broader social implications of poverty in Indian society. The second presentation, “Social Problems in India: Illiteracy,” was delivered by Vahneineng Manchong, 5th Semester. The presentation highlighted the meaning of illiteracy, its major causes, consequences and its impact on social and economic development.

A special number was presented by the 1st Semester students, adding a cultural element to the academic programme. Following this, Asst. Prof. L Lhunjalien, Assistant Coordinator, IQAC, delivered a speech and highlighted the importance of academic seminars in developing students’ knowledge, confidence and presentation skills.

The programme concluded with the Vote of Thanks delivered by Asst. Prof. Kimngaihlun, Dean of Student Welfare. Lheineilhing Haokip, 5th Semester, served as the Rapporteur and documented the proceedings of the seminar.

The seminar provided an informative and engaging platform for students to learn about major social problems confronting Indian society. It also encouraged students to develop their research, communication and presentation skills through active academic participation. The successful organisation of the seminar reflected the Department of Sociology’s commitment to promoting meaningful academic activities and holistic student development.
