Bethany Christian College Observes English Language Day with Poetry Workshop

The Department of English at Bethany Christian College (BCC), in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), successfully organized the Observation of English Language Day cum Workshop on Poetry Writing. The event took place in the BCC Smart Room at 11:00 AM on April 23rd, 2026.

The programme proved to be a meaningful initiative, designed to foster a spirit of literary creativity and encourage our students to engage deeply with poetry and the English language.

Event Highlights

Welcome and Invocation: The event was hosted by students Jessica (4th Semester) and Amos Ginminlun Haokip (2nd Semester). The programme commenced with an invocation prayer led by Vice Principal Dr. L. Khobung.

Keynote Address: The IQAC coordinator delivered the welcome and keynote address. This address emphasized the profound importance of the English language alongside creative writing.

Expert Insights: Principal Dr. B. Kam Za Mung served as the Resource Person for the event. He shared valuable insights into poetry writing and actively encouraged students to develop their creative expression.

Student Presentations: The audience was moved by student poetry presentations, which included “Lamka You Break My Heart” by SK Veineichoi (2nd Semester) and “Don’t Quit” by Lunsianhuai (6th Semester).

Musical Performances: The event’s vibrancy was further enhanced by musical numbers from 2nd Semester students Hoineithem Baite and Daicy Ngaipichong.

Exhibition and Recognition: Asst. Prof. Lhaichingthem Haokip coordinated a dedicated Poetry Exhibition and Display. In response to the English Department’s call, students submitted a total of 24 poems, reflecting their strong literary enthusiasm. To recognize their participation, certificates of appreciation were distributed to all contributors.

Conclusion: The Head of the Department of English, Asst. Prof. Nemlalbiek Gangte, delivered the vote of thanks. The successful event concluded with a benediction pronounced by Pastor Gin Lhungdim, who serves as Chaplain and PA to the Principal.
